Detecting prostate cancer early on and reducing suffering
Malignant changes in the prostate (prostate cancer) affects around 40,000 men in Germany every year. Prostate cancer is thus the most common cancer in men. By using magnetic resonance imaging (MRI), it can be detected early on. This increases the chances of recovery and reduces suffering.
Magnetic resonance imaging is a pain-free and radiation-free examination. Prostate cancer screening involves high-resolution tomograms (sectioned images) of the prostate using MRI.
- No special preparations need to be made beforehand.
- The patient lies on a special pelvis coil on the examination table.
- The examination takes around 30 minutes and is pain-free.
Who carries the costs?
An MRI scan of the prostate makes sense from a medical point of view for many patients. It is an excellent method for detecting prostate cancer in its early stages. Unfortunately, the costs of theMRI are covered by state health insurance only in exceptional cases. Patients can of course choose to pay for a MRI prostate exam themselves. The scale of fees for physicians (Gebührenordnung für Ärzte – GOÄ) applies in this case. Private insurance usually covers the full costs. We would be happy to advise you on the matter.
